Comprehensive Dental Care

Our veterinarians are proud of their abilities to provide compete dental care. A horse’s teeth and jaw functions are vital to their overall well being and performance, especially as they age, so dental care is an important part of your horse’s health.

We provide comprehensive examinations using dental lights, picks, mirrors, and digital radiography as needed. After the exam individualized dental care is provided using appropriate sedation, speculums, head rests and dental floats. Proper dental care will ensure that your horse’s teeth are not causing discomfort, pain or other potential issues.

Please contact us today if you have any questions or would like more information on how we can provide dental care for your horse. We would be happy to speak with you and welcome your call.

What you need to know about your Midwest Veterinary Dental Service appointment at Country View Equine Clinic:

  • Drop-off only - All patients should be dropped off at Country View Equine Clinic between 8:00am and 10am. The order of appointments will be determined by the veterinarian performing services. Most horses will be ready to be picked up between 3:00pm and 4:30pm

  • Before your horse’s appointment - you horse can consume their normal feed and water the evening and morning before their appointment.

  • After your horse’s appointment - You will be given a full procedure report and discharge instructions upon pick up. If significant dental procedures such as extractions are performed, the veterinarian will usually prescribe 2-3 days of phenylbutazone and about 10 days of oral antibiotics, both given twice daily. Generally, your horse can return to their regular diet and turnout immediately. If your horse does not readily consume their regular diet, you can feed soft mashes and soaked hay. One week of rest before resuming groundwork and 3 to 4 weeks before resuming riding with a bridle is recommended.

  • Cost and Payment - An estimate will be provided to you prior to the appointment. You will pay Country View Equine Clinic directly for MVDS services. 50% of the high end of the estimate is due prior to the appointment. Payment in full is required upon pick up. If you are interested in an interest free financing option, we recommend CareCredit.
